Chelsea and Liverpool meet in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday, with both teams having reasons to be happy and unhappy with their results this season. Chelsea has been playing the most boring football in the top half of the table this season, but has been grinding out results. Liverpool, on the other hand, has been erratic, with the superb attacking line matched by the ineptitude of their defense.
Chelsea currently sit 3rd in the table, and while their away form is sketchy, their home form is very good, winning all three of their previous home games, albeit against weak opposition, namely Southampton, Crystal Palace and Swansea. Mourinho’s Chelsea is yet to lose at home, and this match will be first real acid test for them.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are terrible away from home, picking up only 5 points out of a possible 18 in their last 6 away games, though it must be noted that those games included visits to the Etihad Stadium and the Emirates. Suarez is in irrepressible form, having scored and 19 goals already this season, but to gain all three points, the Merseysiders must shore up their defense, which seems to cost them dearly in every game – against Manchester City, arguably both goals they conceded could be attributed to individual errors.
